Bobby Guy:
I spent the summer of 1985 at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and it was one of the best summers of my life. I remember Berklee Professor Lennie Peterson saying once that "We've lost the concept of instrumental pop music in modern America, but just a few decades ago, instrumental music dominated pop." His statement has stayed with me, and my time at Berklee is the genesis of the idea for a GIN-POP record. Instrumental music now is usually smooth jazz, fusion, or background music. While I love these forms of expression, and I love vocal pop, this record is intended to be something very different (and for instrumental music, maybe even dance-able).

The songs here were written and demo'd over the course of two years on a trio, a ditto, and a wiretap riff recorder - credit to modern technology (and Digitech and TC Electronic) for helping the songwriter capture and create the song.

Many thanks to my family for giving me the time and freedom to make this record, and to a Jesus who gives us creativity and whose love is unconditional. Many thanks to Kevin Twit and the team at Indelible Grace for many years of inspiration.

Brent Milligan, you're a master craftsman; Ikaika, working with you is the greatest pleasure; JB, many thanks for years of excellent direction and guidance.
